Long time ago in far far away land there was a big male mouse.  He was very strong and fierce.  He could beat his enemies  with his teeth and claw.  He was so big for a mouse that cats did not want to eat him.  Although there were many cats in his neighborhood, he was safe.    They even got along well.

As days passed by the big mouse grew stronger and stronger.  When he was as big as a grown up male cat he was the strongest mouse in his area.  So he wanted to become a king.  His intention was inspired by human being.  As he lived in a ditch in front of a luxurious house, he often saw a rich man who lived there.  He never saw the man working.  Many people worked for him instead.  Then he told the cats about his intention.  First they laughed at him.

‘You want to be a king?  Come on!’

“Yes, please allow me to become the king of mouse here’

The most influential cat said :

‘I am the number one cat here but still I am not a king’

But suddenly he got a brilliant idea. 

‘Oh, OK then.  If you really want to become the mouse king I and the whole cat community will fully support you.  Anybody stands in your way will become our enemy.  If you need help,  just call us.  We will come immediately and ready to help twenty for hours a day.  But there is a condition’

‘What’s that?’

‘You must give us ten mice per day for the rest of your life’

‘Oh, that’s not fair.  You do nothing and you ask for ten mice per day?’

‘You said we do nothing?  We support you.  I know there is a strong mouse over there ready to eliminate you.  In one year he will be stronger than you.  He will be more than ready to be a king.  I believe he will be ready to give us fifteen mice per day.  So the choice is yours’

OK, I agree.  But please help me to eliminate him’

‘You are very wise.  Of course we will eliminate him. There is no problem for us.   From now on you are the king of all mouse in this area.  Your words will become law’

‘Thank you very much for your support.  I invite you to my inauguration tomorrow’.

‘I have a better idea’ Said number one cat.

‘You’d better cancel your inauguration.  Tell your humble citizen that your king is human being.  Tell them that you will represent the king.  You rule on behalf of the king.  That way you will be more powerful’

‘Thanks for your brilliant idea’

The next day the big mouse called all mouse in the neighborhood.  In front of them he made a declaration.

‘From now on our area become a kingdom of mice.  The ruler is His Majesty King Prabu.  But since he is very busy, he cannot take care of the day to day operation of our community.  Therefore he appointed me as your chief.  I will work for you.  I will serve you.  So please obey all my command.  Dissidents will punished.  And here is my first order.  All of you must work hard to provide offerings for our king.  The offering must be put in front of his palace, here in front of my house.  And everyday the king needs ten mice to work for him’

Since then on they gave offerings of food, fruits, and vegetables to their king.  They brought them to big mouse’s house in the ditch.  And the big mouse gave ten mice daily to king’s palace.  The big mouse was very happy because he did not have to work anymore.  The cats were very happy because they did not have to hunt.

But then something went wrong.  The big mouse was taking ten mice to the palace when it happened.  One of them was a strong male mouse.  As they arrived in the palace, he was shocked when he saw cats had been waiting for them.  He was told that they would work for the king.  He realized that he would be a victim.  Then he ran as fast as he could.  The cats chased him.  Luckily he could hide in a ditch.  After that he told the  mouse community. 

‘Hey, the big mouse is a liar!  He betrayed us.  He sacrificed us to the cats.  I saw our friends were eaten by cats.  I am sure he eats our offerings too’

His words traveled fast.  All members of the mouse community knew this secret.  soon they were very angry.  The crowd of mice then came to the big mouse’s house.

‘Hey big mouse, why do you sacrificed our friends to the cats?

‘It was a mistake.  The cats attacked us when we were there’.

‘Liar !  You must be punished !  We will tell the king about this’.

‘I am your king !  I am the real king.  Obey my command!’

‘Liar! Bring him to the king!’

The angry crowd got out of control.  Then they attacked the big mouse.  The big mouse was a strong and brave mouse so he fought back.  He could kill two or three of them.  But he was outnumbered.  When he was exhausted he could not fight anymore.  Finally the crowd of mice killed him.   The big mouse died a tragic death.  His body was bitten to pieces.  Mice remembered him as a liar and an oppressor who betrayed his own community.

Contoh Narrative Text - Cinderella, adalah salah satu dongeng berbahasa Inggris yang sering diceritakan dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Selamat Membaca :

Once upon a time... there lived an unhappy young girl. Unhappy she was, for her mother was dead, her father had married another woman, a widow with two daughters, and her stepmother didn't like her one little bit. All the nice things, kind thoughts and loving touches were for her own daughters. And not just the kind thoughts and love, but also dresses, shoes, shawls, delicious food, comfy beds, as well as every home comfort.  All this was laid on for her daughters. But, for the poor unhappy girl, there was nothing at all. No dresses, only her stepsisters' hand-me-downs. No lovely dishes, nothing but scraps. No nice rests and comfort. For she had to work hard all day, and only when evening came was she allowed to sit for a while by the fire, near the cinders. That is how she got her nickname, for everybody called her Cinderella. Cinderella used to spend long hours all alone talking to the cat. The cat said,

"Miaow", which really meant, "Cheer up! You have something neither of your stepsisters have and that is beauty."

It was quite true. Cinderella, even dressed in rags with a dusty gray face from the cinders, was a lovely girl. While her stepsisters, no matter how splendid and elegant their clothes, were still clumsy, lumpy and ugly and always would be.

One day, beautiful new dresses arrived at the house. A ball was to be held at Court and the stepsisters were getting ready to go to it. Cinderella, didn't even dare ask, "What about me?" for she knew very well what the answer to that would be:

"You? My dear girl, you're staying at home to wash the dishes, scrub the floors and turn down the beds for your stepsisters. They will come home tired and very sleepy." Cinderella sighed at the cat.

"Oh dear, I'm so unhappy!" and the cat murmured "Miaow".

Suddenly something amazing happened. In the kitchen, where Cinderella was sitting all by herself, there was a burst of light and a fairy appeared.

"Don't be alarmed, Cinderella," said the fairy. "The wind blew me your sighs. I know you would love to go to the ball. And so you shall!"

"How can I, dressed in rags?" Cinderella replied. "The servants will turn me away!" The fairy smiled. With a flick of her magic wand... Cinderella found herself wearing the most beautiful dress, the loveliest ever seen in the realm.

"Now that we have settled the matter of the dress," said the fairy, "we'll need to get you a coach. A real lady would never go to a ball on foot!"

"Quick! Get me a pumpkin!" she ordered.

"Oh of course," said Cinderella, rushing away. Then the fairy turned to the cat.

"You, bring me seven mice!"

"Seven mice!" said the cat. "I didn't know fairies ate mice too!"

"They're not for eating, silly! Do as you are told!... and, remember they must be alive!"

Cinderella soon returned with a fine pumpkin and the cat with seven mice he had caught in the cellar.

"Good!" exclaimed the fairy. With a flick of her magic wand... wonder of wonders! The pumpkin turned into a sparkling coach and the mice became six white horses, while the seventh mouse turned into a coachman, in a smart uniform and carrying a whip. Cinderella could hardly believe her eyes.

"I shall present you at Court. You will soon see that the Prince, in whose honor the ball is being held, will be enchanted by your loveliness. But remember! You must leave the ball at midnight and come home. For that is when the spell ends. Your coach will turn back into a pumpkin, the horses will become mice again and the coachman will turn back into a mouse... and you will be dressed again in rags and wearing clogs instead of these dainty little slippers! Do you understand?" Cinderella smiled and said,

"Yes, I understand!"

When Cinderella entered the ballroom at the palace, a hush fell. Everyone stopped in mid-sentence to admire her elegance, her beauty and grace.

"Who can that be?" people asked each other. The two stepsisters also wondered who the newcomer was, for never in a month of Sundays, would they ever have guessed that the beautiful girl was really poor Cinderella who talked to the cat!

When the prince set eyes on Cinderella, he was struck by her beauty. Walking over to her, he bowed deeply and asked her to dance. And to the great disappointment of all the young ladies, he danced with Cinderella all evening.

"Who are you, fair maiden?" the Prince kept asking her. But Cinderella only replied:

"What does it matter who I am! You will never see me again anyway."

"Oh, but I shall, I'm quite certain!" he replied.

Cinderella had a wonderful time at the ball... But, all of a sudden, she heard the sound of a clock: the first stroke of midnight! She remembered what the fairy had said, and without a word of goodbye she slipped from the Prince's arms and ran down the steps. As she ran she lost one of her slippers, but not for a moment did she dream of stopping to pick it up! If the last stroke of midnight were to sound... oh... what a disaster that would be! Out she fled and vanished into the night.

The Prince, who was now madly in love with her, picked up her slipper and said to his ministers,

"Go and search everywhere for the girl whose foot this slipper fits. I will never be content until I find her!" So the ministers tried the slipper on the foot of all the girls... and on Cinderella's foot as well... Surprise! The slipper fitted perfectly.

"That awful untidy girl simply cannot have been at the ball," snapped the stepmother. "Tell the Prince he ought to marry one of my two daughters! Can't you see how ugly Cinderella is! Can't you see?"

Suddenly she broke off, for the fairy had appeared.

"That's enough!" she exclaimed, raising her magic wand. In a flash, Cinderella appeared in a splendid dress, shining with youth and beauty. Her stepmother and stepsisters gaped at her in amazement, and the ministers said,

"Come with us, fair maiden! The Prince awaits to present you with his engagement ring!" So Cinderella joyfully went with them, and lived happily ever after with her Prince. And as for the cat, he just said "Miaow"!

Love Comes from A Friendship

I had never felt a first love even when I was studying at the University. I do not know why it happened, maybe because I had too much to learn when in Senior in High School so I’d never find a love that truly memorable. When the initial study at the university, the love did not come because I was busy with a variety of activities on campus and was eager to pursue high score at the class. I was also not interested in girls around me or had a curiosity to know a woman.

At the beginning of university entrance, there was actually a girl who looked to have interest in me. She started to give a short message essentially that wanted to know me more. He continued to greet me through the short message. Oddly, she did not mention her real name and only mentions Initials. I was used to respond to a text message without knowing the identity of the person sending. Several times I talked to her about a few things through the short message. However, I had a sense of boredom with the situation and was eager to find out her real name.

I do not like the little people who continue to conceal the identity and so curious to know. One time, I got to know her because I called her by phone. I was not far from her, and she realized that I was on the phone. She was very shy and did not want to say hello again to me via text message on mobile phone.

After that happening, I no longer found things related to love and I did not have interest about love. My friends say that I had changed and got to know a woman. They even made a fun of me by saying that I did not have the ability to pick up a woman. But, I did not care about anything they say. For me, a love comes in a beautiful way and should not be imposed.

One time, I found the first love and a true love of my life. The woman who became my first love was my a classmate but we had not known each other very well. When in the class, we only just greeted each other and did not have any interest. Though we were in a class almost every day and engaged in the same lesson. There was a story that is so unique and our friends did not believe when we were in love because we had been in the same class within 2 years.

The love was present when we are sitting close together in a place and there was one of our friends started teasing each other as if we liked. At first, we felt ashamed because it continued teasing. However, from that teasing, I kept getting a sense of confusion. I kept thinking about her every day even in every single time in my life.

Then, I began to know her through a text message that I sent. When the first short message sent, I got a response and I kept talking to her through a text message on mobile phone. I found hard to sleep and kept thinking about her. Finally, I decided to express love to her, and she received with a very happy feeling. Up to now, I became her life companion and want to continue to be close until death separates us.

Kalimat Simpleks dan Kompleks

Kalimat memiliki berbagai jenis. Jenis kalimat ini bervariasi tergantung berdasarkan apa kita membedakannya. Salah satu pembedaan jenis kalimat bisa dilihat dari kompleksitasnya. Berdasarkan kompleksitasnya, kalimat dibagi dua yaitu kalimat simpleks dan kalimat kompleks.
Kalimat simpleks adalah kalimat yang terdiri atas satu pola kalimat. Yang dimaksud pola kalimat adalah rangkaian kata yang minimal terdiri atas fungsi Subjek (S) dan Predikat (P). Di dalam kalimat simpleks tersebut hanya terdapat satu kata kerja atau satu predikat utama. Dalam istilah lain, kalimat simpleks disebut juga dengan kalimat tunggal.

Contoh : Anak itu mengambil jambu

Kalimat di atas termasuk kalimat simpleks karena hanya terdiri atas satu pola kalimat dengan satu kata kerja utama. Adapun pola kalimat itu adalah S-P-O. Gabungan kata Anak itu menempati fungsi subjek, mengambil menempati fungsi predikat, dan jambu menempati fungsi objek.
Sementara itu, yang dimaksud dengan kalimat kompleks adalah kalimat yang memiliki dua pola kalimat atau memiliki dua predikat/kata kerja utama. Dalam istilah lain, kalimat kompleks disebut juga dengan kalimat majemuk.

Contoh: Andi menendang bola dan Wawan menangkap bola itu.

Kalimat di atas termasuk kalimat kompleks karena mengandung dua pola kalimat. Pola kalimat pertama terdapat pada rangkaian kata Andi menendang bola yang berpola S-P-O. Pola kalimat kedua terdapat pada rangkaian kata Wawan menangkap bola itu yang juga berpola S-P-O.
Selain mengandung dua predikat/kata kerja utama, kalimat kompleks juga ditandai dengan kehadiran kata penghubung intrakalimat. Kata penghubung intrakalimat itu sendiri adalah kata pengubung yang terdapat dalam satu kalimat yang berfungsi menggabungkan dua klausa atau dua pola kalimat. Dalam kalimat, kata penghubung intrakalimat ini dibagi menjadi dua yaitu kata penghubung koordinatif dan kata penghubung subordinatif. Penggunaan kata penghubung koordinatif dalam kalimat akan menjadikan kalimat tersebut kalimat majemuk setara. Sementara, penggunaan kata penghubung subordinatif dalam kalimat akan menjadikan kalimat tersebut menjadi kalimat majemuk bertingkat.

             Ketika mobil itu masuk halaman, dia sedang tertidur.

Induk kalimat dari kalimat kompleks di atas adalah Dia sedang tertidur, sementara anak kalimatnya adalah ketika mobil itu masuk halaman.
